 le sylvandre peut être difficile à repérer au repos, le verso de ses ailes postérieures offrant un excellent camouflage sur son support. Le recto brun fuligineux présente une large bande claire qui traverse chaque aile. Chez le mâle, cette bande est diffuse et dotée d'un unique ocelle ; celle de la femelle est claire, avec deux ocelles. Vit dans les bois clairs et autres lieux ensoleillés arborés, surtout à faible altitude. Vol : Juillet-août.

 the Sylvandre can be hard to spot at rest, the back of the hind wings with excellent camouflage on its support. The front has a sooty brown broadband light that passes through each wing. In males, this band is diffuse and with a single ocellus; that of the female is clear, with two ocelli. Lives in light wood and other wooded sunny places, especially at low altitude. Flight: July-August.
